“Dear Anne, we’ve been so busy showing off all our photos that we forgot to say thank you! They really are wonderful, and everyone we have shared them with has been so impressed and has said lovely things.”
Fiona and Michael’s wedding at Stour Space art gallery in Hackney is a perfect example of what can be achieved with creativity, a bold vision, a love for Wes Anderson movies and a little help from your friends and a green-fingered brother-in-law. A relaxed morning getting ready at Fiona’s family home was followed by an emotional ceremony on the pontoon at the coolest venue in Hackney, Stour Space, drinks in the sun and a stellar a capella performance by a Barbershop Quartet formed of their old schoolmates (honestly, I wish my friends could sing like that!). The neighbours regaled us with ‘Bob the Builder’ from their boombox, the food was delicious, the speeches on point, and Fiona and Michael danced a first dance to end all first dances – pirouettes and twirly lifts included. Oh, and did I mentioned that Fiona arrived at the ceremony pontoon on a boat?!
A special mention should probably go to the floristry as it so perfectly fitted the industrial vibe of a Stour Space Hackney wedding. Nik at Grace & Thorn created bouquets and boutonnieres entirely from grasses, ferns and the fantastically named Belles of Ireland and if I hadn’t been commissioned to photograph a wedding I would have probably snuck off with these beautiful wild creations to take pictures for hours – never mind the bride! I’m only joking of course, but I do appreciate the thought and craftsmanship that go into choosing and creating the flowers and all the other details and I really want this to be reflected in the pictures I take.
Weddings, as they say, don’t get much better than this.
