2019 highlights
Isn’t it funny how some dates sound so much more exciting than others? I mean, who has ever woken up on January 1st and shouted: “wow, it’s 2013 (2015, 2017) and I’m SO EXCITED”? Or maybe it’s just me and my strange preference for even-numbered years, who knows. After an amazing 2018 season that was crammed full of highlights and saw me shooting weddings in some of my dream venues (Laura and George’s wedding at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset springs to mind) I really didn’t think things could get much better. Boy, was I wrong because this past year has been truly special! I felt inspired, excited and I had so much fun! It was also really lovely to see how my style of fine art wedding photography mixed with relaxed photojournalism hit exactly the right note not only with my couples (well, naturally!) but also with the guests at all the weddings I shot. It means a lot to me when people tell me how relaxed they feel in my presence and while I make it my mission to capture each wedding in the absolutely BEST light (that’s the fine art wedding photography part), I also think it’s important to make everyone feel good around me and in front of my camera.
In 2019 I met a ton of amazing new people and talented vendors and worked with so many wonderful couples, and while the weather wasn’t always perfect, all the weddings were gorgeous and fun and filled to the brim with love and joy. There were (in no particular order):kilts and fake fur, barefoot brides, a ceremony at Westminster Abbey and a stunning DIY wedding in a village hall, the most beautiful wedding cake the world has ever seen by the talented Sammi Jo Gascoyne, a raunchy plastic trout, some great shapes on the dancefloor, a groom’s speech that made me (!) cry, and not one but two English cottage garden weddings straight out of Vogue.
This past year was also my 10 year anniversary of shooting weddings professionally and while that makes me feel pretty old I still enjoy it as much as ever, if not more.
So here’s to the new decade and to all my 2020 couples!
